Strategies for Effective Advocacy

The Indiana Association of Area Agencies on Aging advocates for a fair and balanced long term care system for the aged and disabled populations in Indiana. The rapid growth rate of the over-60 population, combined with continually rising health care costs, means that addressing long term care issues needs to be a priority for Indiana legislators. IAAAA is working to make sure that happens.

IAAAA goals

Indiana can become a leader on aging policy by developing a personal, private and public partnership that will benefit not only our seniors, but all Hoosiers.  The Indiana Association of Area Agencies on Aging hopes that state policy recognizes aging as a new stage of life, and we urge lawmakers to find new ways to promote health, productivity, and involvement with this community.  Indiana must act now to anticipate these challenges and to proactively prepare to rise to the occasion.

Accomplishments

Our work with coalitions on issues that affect long-term care has produced dramatic results including the establishment of Indiana's prescription drug program, the Senior Members Coalition and increased penalties for persons who financially and otherwise exploit endangered adults. Our efforts have helped to increase funding for Indiana's home care program, CHOICE and to expand the number of funded Medicaid Waiver slots.

Action Alerts

The baby boomer generation is riding an age wave that will tax our country's healthcare resources more than any group that has come before. States must plan and prepare for this aging population's health care needs. Indiana is no exception.
