Consumer-Directed Care

Position:

The Indiana Association of Area Agencies on Aging supports an Independence Plus 1115 Medicaid Waiver for Consumer Directed Care.

Rationale:

The Indiana Association of Area Agencies on Aging supported the passage of Indiana’s consumer-directed care laws. Area Agencies on Aging offer consumer-directed care as an option under the CHOICE program.

Independence Plus Waivers have been very successful in Arkansas and New Jersey (Mathematica, 2003). An Independence Plus 1115 Medicaid Waiver would give the state flexibility needed for such a program.

Action:

Support activity whether legislative or administrative that would establish such a waiver in Indiana.
